You need to stay ahead of colleagues! … Our education system is focused on educating the winners, Z axis-Samos, people who come up to every task in the school as a deadly duel in which to spread out on the shoulders of others … While such approach can sometimes still be justified in individual sports, it is quite wrong when we think about education: citizens, scientists, entrepreneurs, politicians, and of course the athletes team games. Perhaps this attitude to promote school competition also explains the many failures of Polish teams on the international sports arena. At the VIII Congress of Citizens (10/26/2013) occurred Panasewicz King, a high school student from Hrubieszów and winner of second place in the World Competition Intel ISEF 2013 (the International Science and Engineering Fair). 17-year-old, but at the same time a scientist whose work on synchronization of cerebral hemispheres appreciated by a group of specialists awarding her the prize in medicine.

During his speech drew attention to the element of cooperation – “looking at today’s science, make great discoveries only when people work together sometimes completely from other areas (…) see this year’s Nobel Prize – a prize of medicine divided among three scientists, physics – two scientists (…) or the Human Brain Project, which brings together more than 135 institutions from 26 countries. “Unfortunately, as noted by King Panasewicz school students often inhibits the cooperation or does not support it strongly enough. Too often they tell students that they can not do something because … Cooperation in school is still not enough. There may be more if the entire system is geared to the individual result in the final test (or high school matriculation exam). They count only individual achievements, and where there is room for team achievements?

What can we do to open a school educating students to collaborate with others and itself became an institution open to joint action? The introduction of an educational project for high school is not enough to kick-start cooperation in the classroom, in the school and around the school. Probably need a different philosophy of teaching, set authentically, and not just declaratively (as in documents MEN) to stimulate creativity, cooperation and development of students’ talents. Different talents, and not only those mathematical and linguistic … Because is not that the Polish school, you can not do that!

Often, however, that manages to tap the potential of cooperation of students and teachers. This is evidenced by the various international competitions in which teams of Polish pupils are huge successes. Example of April 2013 – team of high school students from Krakow and Andrychowa won the international competition of miniature construction and launching of satellites of the European Space Agency (ESA). Polish students regularly win international Olympiads in mathematics and information technology. So we can not teach cooperation, but why only a fraction of a percent of the student population? The rest does not deserve?

Tools for this are – project method is versatile and ready for use at every stage of education and in every subject. It would be even harder to spread in primary and secondary. But most importantly – must change attitude to the achievements in education. Very disturbing in stimulating cooperation in the school setting for testing – unfortunately, officials and parents see this as the most important goal of school education (to pass the exam as the best high school and a high school diploma), and teachers, even those innovative and avant-garde, rarely remain that pressure. Added to this is not uncommon at all for the lack of management support new ways of working – here more often than developing cooperation and the stimulation of creativity count the results of exams (because supposedly testify to the high school level …).

Something with this approach you need to do if we want students and graduates of Polish schools actually were successful in academic life and economic … (Note about the author: Marcin Polak is the creator and editor of Edunews.pl, is engaged in education and social communication, realizing commercial and social projects on a national and international level. In accordance with Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, everyone has the right to education. Education at the primary level is free and compulsory.

Technical education, vocational and higher education are widely available. Page 2 of 2Na Fortunately modern technology can provide many tools needed to take up the challenge of scale. The combination of software, broadband network and powerful, affordable device that makes it is possible to provide quality education resources in the hands of every teacher or student who has access to basic technological infrastructure and educational tools. Unique technology capabilities enable today’s limited educational resources quickly and cost spread over long distances to a huge number of people. It is an essential element in our efforts to transform education. Publicly available lectures with the best technical university in the world – the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – is a fascinating example of how technology can help the spread of educational materials on a large scale.

Written lectures, exams and other resources to more than 1,800 lessons are available for free on the websites of the Institute. These materials, developed by professors of one of the finest universities in the world, yet until recently were only a handful of students. Now you can use them all, from any place in the world. Every month an average of more than 1 million users visited the MIT website. Virtual communities that allow teachers to share ideas and lesson plans are another example of how technology can increase the scale of education. The aim of the global grant program organized under the initiative of the Microsoft Unlimited Potential – Social Skills Technology Program – is to equalize opportunities for disadvantaged and at risk of “information exclusion” in access to the tools, knowledge and skills. We work with governments, NGOs and other companies to create Innovative Teachers Network (Innovative Teachers Networks).

Already more than half a million teachers from nearly 50 countries, divided into a thousand lesson plans and modern digital resources using this solution. Portals can also connect teachers with students and parents. In Shirelands Language College in England, thanks to the Learning Gateway portal Shirelands parents can watch the progress of their children, teachers and students are supported in the process of education and benefit from individualized forms of work. Learning Gateway Shirelands impact on academic performance was so positive that officials responsible for education, it quickly spread to hundreds of other schools. It seems fairly simple matter of putting the educational system and extend it to the next thousand students, teachers and parents, because it is based on software that can be delivered over the Internet. There are many other ways in which technology can help to spread education on a larger scale. Internet training for teachers is one of the most important, because they can be extremely profitable in the training of new teachers, and may be the only opportunity to meet the expectations of certified teachers.

Of course, the technology itself is not the answer to all the issues contained in Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which we try to meet. There are important social, cultural and institutional challenges that also have to deal with. The technology must be implemented as part of a deliberate, holistic approach to the changes in education that takes into account the training of teachers, relevant curricula, parental involvement and children’s programs that meet basic needs like food and health care. The joint work of the government, private sector and non-governmental organizations must take into account these issues. Only then will we be able to cope with the widespread demand for teachers and parents to ensure that children have access to quality education, which is required for leading a productive life with unlimited possibilities of success, discoveries and knowledge. Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft.
